.TEL domain name is now available for registration as of 24 March 2009.
Why is this worth mentioning?
.TEL domain is different with our normal .com, .net, .org top level domains because the DNS service stores contact information and not just IP address.
The value of a .tel domain lies with the ability to host personal (or corporate) contact information directly in the DNS, which can then be universally accessible. This stands in contrast to the typical use of the DNS for other TLDs, in which the DNS only provides a mapping between domain names and IP addresses.

It’s still early to tell how useful it is to have a .tel domain name. There is also a similar initiative with .enum and somehow I think it isn’t picking up yet? I might be wrong.
