The Great P1 Wiggy Marketing Buzz

April 24th, 2009

I think P1 is doing a great job in their marketing.

P1 recently launched a USB modem device for broadband and have invited a group of bloggers for the preview.
Photo here.
Sorry, you couldn’t find my face there cos I wasn’t invited, duh.

Anyway, I first remembered seeing advertisements like this:
wiggy3
Erm, who’s the flasher?

Then their PC Fair promoters are wearing shirts with teasers like these:
wiggy_ad1
Can I touch your wiggy? 馃槈

wiggy_ad2
Can I have your wiggy?

And I then saw online advertisements like this:
wiggy_ad
Where to insert my wiggy? 馃榾

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with a product with the name of a Wiggy, and in fact having advertisements or teasers like above is a super cool way to get everybody to remember this thing called ‘Wiggy‘. You can flash it, touch people’s wiggy or wiggies, ask about it and even insert it to something for maximum pleasure!

I think you (especially you guys who knows about this gutteruncensored thingy) know where this thing is leading to. 馃榾

Wiggy marketers, I know you’re making this buzz with the idea of linking it with this and this.

What do you think? 馃檪

And for the bloggers’ review of the recent launch, I recommend you to check the following:

PC Fair is an annual affair and actually is a twice a year affair for computer enthusiasts or deals seeker to get the best price for computers or electronic gadgets.

I remembered the days when I used to visit PC Fair at Komtar in Penang with my cousin brother when I was still a kid and being introduced to the world of computer or should I say computer games. 馃檪

Back then was the early days of PC Fair, where things get to be more interesting in my point of view. Early birds get freebies, and there’s even Computer Games Challenge and a whole lot of new technologies or gadgets to check out.

Nowadays, PC Fair has evolved to a crowded marketplace with female promoters dressed as F1 girls (not that I’m complaining though). It has also become a place where all computer shops have their grand sale, competing with other shops with better price.

The excitement of going to PC Fair has started to diminish a few years back. I have stopped visiting PC Fair except when I needed to make a purchase of a computer system or a laptop, of which I will make a price survey at the fair. I will still make the actual purchase at a computer shop in my area.

This time around, I visited PC Fair in KL Convention Center as a tour guide to my relatives dropping by from overseas. By the time people know about it, they are asking me to collect brochures and to make purchases for them. :-S

Thus it was not really a fun affair making a trip to PC Fair anymore as compared to the days in Komtar. Am I getting old or what?

First of all, the visitors following the crowd make their way to the top floor of the KL Convention Center where everyone had to pass the hall where the exhibitors are all mobile broadband or internet providers. You get people shoving you USB broadband modem and shouting ‘broadband, broadband’ or something like that. Passing that hall due to our intention of seeing gadgets and not signing up broadband, we had to make our way three or four floors to the ground again.

I remember seeing the banner that alternative entrance is at the ground floor, but if the organizers had stated that the top floor are just internet providers, I should have avoided that and head straight to the alternative entrance and also avoiding the massive crowd.

Overall, there are only a few items I think deserving a mention:

aiptek-projector-3
1) Pocket projector – it’s a small projector the size of a PDA or mobile phone. The projection is not as wide as the normal lamp projectors, enough only to project to the size of a small whiteboard. It comes with a tripod, something like a digital camera tripod. It’s using LED and said to have a longer life but it does costs over RM1k. I’d rather get an actual lamp projector by topping up a few hundred more.

2) GPS navigator – I have request to check out the price of Garmin nuvi 205W, but seems like most of those shops are selling Garmin nuvi 255W (with junction view). The GPS navigator software has progressed till that it allows you to view the road of each junctions that you arrive to before making your choice of which to turn into.

3) Camera pen – this seems to be a James Bond gadget or also something that we call spy cam. While I could not figure how it could be useful, but I think I had to be cautious on my action and speech when I see a protruding pen directed at me in the future. If I’m not mistaken, it has a storage of at least 1GB and retails at RM 99 only!

4) iPod imitation – iPod branding is so strong that the business of making their imitations are doing good as well. These iPod nano imitations particularly interests me as they have the “click wheel” just like the real one. What’s lacking is not just the quality of the product, but the sofware itself looks cheap. But hey, it has got radio which the iPod nano lack of and also at the price of around RM 150, who’s complaining?

Other than these interesting gadgets, exhibitors like Acer, Dell, Lenovo, HP, Asus appears at more than one hall, so it’s kinda repetitive going through the same brands.

Did I mention all the way it was packed like sardines even on the way exiting the fair?

Someone please do not ask me to visit PC Fair again.
