Marvellous Internet Can Sometimes Make You Suck

I really do marvel on Internet. It is a marvellous technological product, just like the light bulb, electricity, television, radio, and the mobile phone.

In the perspective of news, it allowed me to save from buying newspapers on weekdays and also get the latest news earlier than those who waited for the print edition.

And in the perspective of getting news earlier, I get to see typos, news that never got proof-read. There are some which are not even verified on its authenticity.

Imagine news that have not been verified and authenticated coming from a reputable mainstream media.

The damage done could be quite impactful, painful even, to certain parties.

And what I’m trying to point to is Rick Astley. Something very painful happened to him.

Some newspapers did a MJ on him. (Michael Jackson; as in dead).

One of them who reported the news was a Malaysian paper.

Rick Astley might not be as memorable as MJ, but nevertheless news like the death of a singer not long after MJ’s would’ve generated some curiosity and interest.

I’m not sure if people forwarded the news with mobile phone but the news spread quite fast on the internet especially on Twitter.

The internet is really a great tool if you use it correctly and very damaging especially for those who posted things that should not be on the internet. Things like your private photos, videos, false news, flame wars etc etc.

I would like to stress that I’m not trying to poke at anybody especially those who reported the news of Rick Astley premature demise.

Then again, hey, you are spreading news, and better make it authenticated, proof-read before posting it up like you’re a winner. You win 99 times and with only 1 false news, that’ll just bring you down to zero.

Damage done might be recoverable to a certain extent.

On the internet however, it would take time for the search engine to remove the index of the page or even people who reported that mistake.

So the marvellous internet sometimes could make you suck, when you did an MJ.

One note though, the phrase ‘did an MJ’ is something that I invented myself, as reference to his recent death.

If you know what I mean, something you would easily refer to like the ‘apa-nama’, ‘flip-flop’, ‘just do it’. :-)

By the way, did you play the Rick Astley video? If you did, I’ve ‘Rickrolled‘ ya!

Yeah, sometimes internet do suck. Haha.. Have a nice weekend!
