Maxis WiFi Modem E5832 Broadband Manager

February 24th, 2011

There are two ways to manage the broadband usage of the Maxis WiFi Modem E5832.

1) Maxis Broadband Connection Manager
One is via the Broadband Connection Manager program, installed to the computer.

This software acts as a manager for the broadband network connection.

For example, you can connect and disconnect to the mobile broadband network, check the statistics of data use (when plugged in), and even perform sending and receiving of SMS!

The SMS sending function is quite cool in my opinion, and I’m sure there’s a way to program and send SMS from a program to the WiFi modem. 😉

This software also enable operations on the SIM card’s phonebook.

There is also a function whereby you can set the volume usage limit, though I would wonder why one would set a daily or weekly limit for themselves.

The Statistics screen provides a real-time data usage on upload and download speed.

There is also a volume statistics counter to display the data used.
Do note that there is also a warning that ‘The volume statistics is an approximate. Please visit MyLaunchPad page and sign into view your actual statistics.

This is because the tracking runs only when the modem is plugged-in via USB. When it is running on it’s own, we are unable to track the volume used.

Thus MyLaunchPad is required for actual data usage tracking because that is an online portal which shows volume used from the server-side.

2) 3G Wireless Modem Manager

The other Modem manager (or Admin console, I would call it) is actually a web application accessible at http://192.168.1.1 once you are connected to the WiFi modem.

This is exactly like the Admin screen for a wired WiFi modem or router modem.

There are various settings that you could change for the modem, but for brevity’s sake, and for the most common actions, that will be to change the SSID and the WiFi Key.

These pages can be found under Advance Settings > WLAN Basic Settings and WLAN Advanced Settings.

3) MyLaunchPad
MyLaunchPad isn’t really a place that you can manage your broadband settings.

It is an online portal, something like your account manager instead.
You will need to sign-up here to track your actual data use that will be billed to you.

Data used is tracked every session. You can see the list of every connected sessions and its volume of usage here.

There is also a bar chart indicating how close you are to your monthly volume quota.

Do you still have the quick start guide/manual with you?
If you do, look at the Restoring the Factory Defaults section.

      If not, follow these steps:
      1) Press and hold the “WIFI/WPS” and the globe button at the same time until all the indicators are off.
Note: After this operation, all personal configuration settings are deleted and all web-based management settings and parameters will be restored to their default values.
The Wifi password is then set to default, which is inside the device after removing the battery and cover.
