What kids speak in TEDx

November 22nd, 2011

I am absolutely amazed by the kids of this generation.

In 2009, we got to know about the then 9 year old iPhone developer, Ding Wen.

So it seems more kids are joining the crowd of young programmers.

Following are the recordings of speeches from 2 of these young app developers in TEDx Conferences.

Thomas Suarez is a 12 year old kid who developed iPhone Apps like the Earth Fortune and Bustin Jieber (Justin Bieber Whack-A-Mole).

Look at his style of presentation. No prize for guessing who’s his idol, Steve Jobs.

James Goh, 9 years old, a Malaysian, hopes to be a video game developer.

What kids can do to change the world? His talk is inspiring, as ideas from a 9 year-old.

What were you doing at their age? 🙂

Qiwi payment solutions in Malaysia

November 18th, 2011

Imagine my surprise when I saw a payment terminal recently, that supports quite a number of merchants.

It looked like an ATM but with a touchscreen display and also an inlet to receive cash.

A search with Google, provided information about Qiwi a payment service originated from Russia.

QIWI is a universal and affordable payment service.
With the QIWI payment service, you can pay for any everyday service: from mobile phone plans to bank loans, purchases at online stores, make payments to the government and much more.

The QIWI payment service offers a wide range of payment methods, among which each user can choose the method they personally find most convenient. QIWI Cash appears on the recipient account almost instantly and all transactions are secure.

Payment tools:

  • an extensive network of self-service terminals and QIWI payment points; the “QIWI Wallet” website;
  • payment applications on popular social networking sites, mobile phones (you can make payments through a special application for all types of mobile devices or by using SMS-commands);
  • ATMs of partner banks.

It seems that currently the Qiwi payment machine supports prepaid reload, foreign reload (whatever that is), IDD card, and also various payment to cable tv, internet and postpaid phone providers.

As the machine does not provide change, the change can be donated to charitable organizations such as MAKNA. There is also a RM1 convenience fee for using the service.

In my personal opinion, this payment solution is good for user as it is convenient to pay. No credit card information is required as payment is only with cash and only RM1 is charged for using the services.
However, the down-side is that it cannot provide change to your payment.

I would like to see if it supports NFC in the future. 🙂

World Famous Premium Outlets opening in Johor

November 11th, 2011

Premium Outlets is no stranger to shoppers of branded goods. Products from brands like Adidas, Armani, Burberry, Coach, Ermenegildo Zegna, Gap, Guess, Michael Kors, Nike, Ralph Lauren, Salvatore Ferragamo and more are available at factory outlet prices from these Premium Outlet Centers.
In short, Premium Outlets are branded goods fan-aunties favourite place! 🙂

Premium Outlets has always been the privilege of Americans, Japanese and some say Koreans.

Ok, so Premium Outlets is the outlet division of Simon Property Group and is based in Roseland, New Jersey. The Premium Outlets® portfolio includes 69 Premium Outlet Centers® including 57 in the United States, one in Puerto Rico, eight in Japan, two in Korea and one in Mexico as well as additional outlet centers for a total of 81 properties.

But NOW, you can probably say Premium Outlets is famous in US, Japan and some say Johor!

Mark your calendar, Johor Premium Outlets Grand Opening is on December 11, 2011. Sneak Preview starts December 2. (Not quite sure what kind of preview it is though).

Johor Premium Outlets is a collection of 80 designer and name brand outlet stores featuring saving of 25% to 65% every day. The center is held by “Genting Simon Sdn Bhd” (GSSB), a wholly owned subsidiary of Simon Genting Ltd (“SGL”). SGL in turn is a 50:50 joint venture between Azzon Ltd (“Azzon”), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Genting Plantations Bhd, and Premium Outlets®, the outlet division of Simon Property Group.

I have got to say, Malaysians or particularly Johoreans has Genting Berhad to thank for. With such partnership with a famous brand, Malaysians do not need to fly halfway across the globe to shop for their favourite branded goods at a discount.
You can burn a hole in your pocket right in Johor!
Well, I’m sure Johor will get an influx of visitors from Singapore even more frequently.
