McDonald’s McCafe invades Malaysia

June 20th, 2012

Only recently did McDonald’s McCafe made a silent entry into Malaysia through the first McCafe branch in Kota Damansara’s Mc Donald’s.

It was partially silent, as it was not shown on its official website but was announced in McDonald’s Malaysia Facebook page.

My curiosity led me to make a visit and try the McCafe experience during the second day of its opening. Truth be told, I’m not a real coffee drinker. I know how to order my latte but not one that knows how to produce a cup for myself other than using instant packets.

All I know was this McCafe fame kind of killed or gave a tough competition to Starbucks in the US.

The McCafe experience really does mimic Starbucks and the other premium coffee providers albeit at a lower price for its range of handcrafted coffee. The range of its coffee menu is less than half of Starbucks but who’s going to complain if one can get a simple Cappucino, Flat White, Americano, Mocha, Latte, Espresso, Iced Latte or Iced Mocha with prices between RM 4.50 to RM 6.50?

Of course, unless you’re a total premium coffee experience fan.

You even get a foamed ‘M’ to go with it.

All you need to do is select your caffeine fix at the counter, pay up and then wait for the baristas to prepare your drink.

I’m looking forward to their opening in other branches so I might drop in for a coffee once in a while.
Friends of mine said this is good, probably could bring down the price of Starbucks. I’m not too sure. There are Starbucks fans and there are people who wants to get more shots of coffee. 🙂
What say you?

World Famous Premium Outlets opening in Johor

November 11th, 2011

Premium Outlets is no stranger to shoppers of branded goods. Products from brands like Adidas, Armani, Burberry, Coach, Ermenegildo Zegna, Gap, Guess, Michael Kors, Nike, Ralph Lauren, Salvatore Ferragamo and more are available at factory outlet prices from these Premium Outlet Centers.
In short, Premium Outlets are branded goods fan-aunties favourite place! 🙂

Premium Outlets has always been the privilege of Americans, Japanese and some say Koreans.

Ok, so Premium Outlets is the outlet division of Simon Property Group and is based in Roseland, New Jersey. The Premium Outlets® portfolio includes 69 Premium Outlet Centers® including 57 in the United States, one in Puerto Rico, eight in Japan, two in Korea and one in Mexico as well as additional outlet centers for a total of 81 properties.

But NOW, you can probably say Premium Outlets is famous in US, Japan and some say Johor!

Mark your calendar, Johor Premium Outlets Grand Opening is on December 11, 2011. Sneak Preview starts December 2. (Not quite sure what kind of preview it is though).

Johor Premium Outlets is a collection of 80 designer and name brand outlet stores featuring saving of 25% to 65% every day. The center is held by “Genting Simon Sdn Bhd” (GSSB), a wholly owned subsidiary of Simon Genting Ltd (“SGL”). SGL in turn is a 50:50 joint venture between Azzon Ltd (“Azzon”), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Genting Plantations Bhd, and Premium Outlets®, the outlet division of Simon Property Group.

I have got to say, Malaysians or particularly Johoreans has Genting Berhad to thank for. With such partnership with a famous brand, Malaysians do not need to fly halfway across the globe to shop for their favourite branded goods at a discount.
You can burn a hole in your pocket right in Johor!
Well, I’m sure Johor will get an influx of visitors from Singapore even more frequently.

Farewell to Borders Bookstores

July 22nd, 2011

As Borders stores are closing gradually, it seems that the last stores are now at the final closing stage.

The Borders CEO Mike Edwards has written a letter to Borders Members bidding farewell and sharing the most asked and probably well-known answer to the question of ‘What happened?’.

If you like heading to a physical bookstore for a read and to check out books, news like this would be devastating, especially if Borders is your favourite hangout.

Due to the days and advent of the Marvellous Internet, ebooks coupled with the very popular and low priced eReaders just beat the brick-and-mortar type of bookstores out of the competition.

Although it is said that Borders bookstores out of the US is not affected, I would think it is only a matter of time.
The time is when readers buy ebooks more than in the form of hard-copies, when the eReaders costs less than a mobile phone.

At the meantime, the period between July 22 and August 5 2011 is when you might want to head out to the last Borders bookstores for discounts.
