How to download, save and play facebook video

February 9th, 2010

This video download tip requires no installation of any programs, except using your internet browser only.

Some videos that are uploaded onto Facebook, are not linked directly to YouTube, and the video file is encoded, stored in Facebook’s site.

It gets a bit tricky to download and play such videos offline.

If you search with Google or any other search engines, most likely than not you will be asked to install programs. More often that not also, such programs are malwares and might install trojan horse or virus to your computer.

So, say you wanted to download a video, something like this:

Identify the URL
The URL should be in the form of http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php followed by the video id.
As an example for the above, the URL is : http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1254357076086&ref=mf

Get the video link
View the HTML source of the page.

Right click and select ‘View Page Source’ and look for the id with “video_src”.
The following link is the hidden video link.

Convert the video link
The hidden video link is actually encoded and you need to unencode or technically, unescape the HTML code.
Go to http://www.linkedresources.com/tools/unescaper_v0.2b1.html and put the video link to the encoded textarea, then click unescape.

Voila, the actual video link will be displayed below.

Download and save the file
Now that you got the link, just paste it to your browser URL bar and download it.

Ready to play
The download file, could be in mp4 format, and if your video player such as Windows Media Player is unable to play it, and you do not have the codec, try renaming the file extension from mp4 to flv.
Proceed to play the file offline with FLV Player.

Hope it works for you, just like it worked for me! :-)

MyFm DJs & Astro主持人 Chinese New Year 2010 MTV – 大日子

February 2nd, 2010

This 2010, MyFM and Astro have once again collaborated in a project for Chinese New Year. This time around, and for the very first time, both produced a Chinese New Year Movie together: 大日子 WOOHOO!

大日子 WooHoo! or Tiger WooHoo! is showing in Malaysian cinemas and is by far the best local Chinese movie that I have watched.
It is primarily a comedy movie but also a heartwarming family-oriented one.

The movie is so popular its 大日子woohoo! Facebook page has over 70,000 fans.

If you have yet to watch it, check out the trailer below (with BM subtitles):

And this year again like 2009, a number of catchy songs are produced as well.
Here goes:

大日子

惜福

恭喜恭喜

发财发财/贺新年

我的新年台

是不是好正啊,反薯…

15Malaysia Potong Saga filmed at Section 17 PJ

August 21st, 2009

The previously mentioned 15Malaysia project has since been launched.

The videos are being released every two days and I assumed most of Malaysians would’ve watched the first of the series, the Potong Saga.

Know what is the first thing that came to mind when I watched this clip for the first time?
When it reached 0:34 of the clip’s timeline, that particular place brought familarity.
I know where it is. :-)

Even The Making of Potong Saga didn’t reveal it.
It’s a wantan mee shop I frequent with my colleagues in Section 17 PJ.

Well, today we got the confirmation from the owner themselves and she was surprised that we recognized the location.

“Can’t imagine a mere 1 minute clip (taken in the shop) would take two hours of recording”, she indicated that movie production is indeed not easy.

The rest of the clip was also shot around the vicinity as the field is also near the restaurant, as the location of Namewee’s mum cutting the roasted pork, as well as the location of the “fanning”.

The mysterious one left would be the potong clinic.

Anyway, the noodle house is a decent one, not very fancy but does serve nice wantan, char siew, and roasted pork. (Well of course it’s non-halal.)

If you wanna check it out, map is provided below.
