iPhone 3G Officially in Malaysia by Maxis

March 11th, 2009

Maxis has announched the sale of iPhone 3G in Malaysia today, packaged together with their few plans available for your selection.

Booking starts today from 11th March 2009 at 3.00pm till 17th March 2009 at 11.59pm.

You can book for the phone with the iPhone 3G plan of your choice and collect them on the pick-up date and time that you have chosen.

Maxis also stated in their FAQ that anyone can purchase the iPhone 3G once all online booking orders have been collected and stocks is still available.

Maxis iPhone 3G plans:

The higher your monthly commitment fees, the cheaper for your iPhone will be. The lowest monthly commitment fees of RM 80 will require the purchase of iPhone 3G at the price of RM 2540 (8GB) and RM 2960 (16GB).

In my personal opinion, Maxis announcement is just too expensive too late.

Too expensive: Being tied down to a contract and getting an iPhone above 2k is expensive as you can get an unlocked version if you’re able to find one. You will still need to purchase some applications from Apple App Store or considering upgrading to the Maxis unlimited data plan if you’re internet dependant. 🙂

Too late: iPhone 3G was released middle of 2008 and rumours are that a newer version will be coming this year in June/July. That period is the usual time of Apple’s new product launches. iPhone killers ( in terms of functions and applications) are available everywhere, just that their branding is not as strong as iPhone. Even the Japanese doesn’t want iPhone. Tips: Lookout for the upcoming Palm Pre.

Besides, who would be supporting issues with your iPhone? Maxis?

I would very much like to own a iPhone 3G, but this is just… too expensive.

I absolutely agree my friend… the price is illogical… not only that, being locked onto the one of Maxis’ value plans with 2 supp lines, I was told that the moment I switch over to the new iPlan, I lose the free calls & smses to my supp lines! What’s the deal with that?

I seriously think maxis should revise the iphone rates.

      Like I just got a Datukship! LoL…

Ben, why not make a survey on your pagi show and see what the public thinks about their rates?
I bet most will be on your side 🙂

      @Ben

but have to be fair, the iphone 3g, maxis offering is quite attractive as well, lets compare with singtel iphone plan, you need to commit to the usage of sg 205 per month, if you to convert into myr (around RM410), where maxis offer only RM375 per month to get the device free, plus maxis offer 2500 minute talktime compare with 1500 singtel offer.

more over, only in malaysia you will find those free calls and sms are given in between principal and supp. in singapore or most of the country they aren’t offering that. so i should say, maxis iphone rateplan in some sense still quite attractive.

the only bad point is that, the rateplan doesnt come with sms bundle, but you can buy the extra sms, where it only cost you RM 8 for 500 maxis – maxis sms.

btw according to them the maxis iphone 3g is not a lock set, you can slot in celcom and digi sim card and it still able to make call and sms.

i am going to get one……. is quite attractive
