Apple iPad with Maxis WiFi Modem top usage

March 1st, 2011

For the past two weeks of using the Apple iPad and Maxis WiFi Modem E5832 for the Maxis10 Reviewers Programme, I’m able to categorize my top 5 usage of the Apple iPad.

1) Social apps

Social apps like Twitter and Facebook are my top iPad apps for social networking.

Do you know that Facebook has not created an iPad app for the world’s most famous social network? You can, however, download the iPhone version or the ‘Friendly’ app.

During the collection of the Apple iPad and Maxis WiFi Modem from Menara Maxis in KLCC, LiewCF recommended using Flipboard app which is a very popular social magazine app that consolidates your Twitter tweets, Facebook status updates, Google Reader posts, Flickr photos and other news.

You only need to flip the pages to browse through the list of updates.

2) Games

The one reason Apple made a smartphone an entire new league is its App Store. Games are undeniably the top categories of downloads, among othes like songs and videos.

Who needs intro on Angry Birds?

However, my personal favourite is Doodle Fillup.

3) Music

The next is music and songs.

Do note that the iTunes Store for Malaysia does not list songs for download or purchase. What is available are only apps and podcasts. 🙁

Who cares you can’t purchase songs? I can have my favourite radio stations with me all along, with Maxis WiFi Modem for constant internet connection, there’s no worries that I have no radio or music for entertainment.

I also found that the iTunes software, enables ripping of music from CDs directly to the iPad, without the need for any conversion. CD to iPad is a breeze.

4) Videos

Well, like songs, I’m not able to get any full length videos or at lengthier movie episodes from iTunes.

The video podcasts found are mostly movie trailers or series introductions/trailers, which are BORING.

The only consolation is having YouTube. Watching quality videos from YouTube on the iPad are so different that from mobile phones.
You just got to watch it yourself to feel the difference.

5) Magazine and books

Now this is my favourite part. I’m not exactly a bookworm but I read more than just a little.

The iPad is truly a wonderful device for this habit.

You can get a few free apps that provides free magazines and books.

The Star Malaysia has an iPad app and it’s free for download.

TIME Magazine has one as well, but you need to purchase the issues.

Same for FORTUNE magazine.

Once you have purchased the magazine issues, they will be shown on the library shelf.

To attract users to purchase digital copies of the magazines, most publishers have special bonus in the issues specifically for issues purchased digitally.

Some pages have interactive components, including videos.

iBooks, on the other hand is a cool app from Apple for ebook reading.

You can browse and download books from the bookstore directly or load them with iTunes. PDF and ePub formats are supported.

You can adjust the brightness of the screen from the iBooks app itself and also it will always know where you have left off from the book you have read.

Am I fully using the iPad? I doubt that.
So how are you using your iPad?
